Financial Aid Eligibility
The PBPH program is a non-degree certificate program. To qualify for federal financial aid as a non-degree student, you must:
- Not be enrolled at another institution or admitted to your intended graduate program.
- Be enrolled in preparatory coursework required for admission to an eligible graduate/professional program in healthcare or medicine.
- Courses that are recommended but not required are not aid-eligible.
- Enroll in at least 6 qualifying credits per semester.
- Use aid eligibility within a single, continuous 12-month period as a non-degree student.

After Submitting Your FAFSA
- Review your FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) sent to your FAFSA email address.

Federal Aid Amounts for Non-Degree Students
Eligible PBPH students may qualify for:
- Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans

- Dependent students: up to $5,500 (maximum $5,500 subsidized)
- Independent students: up to $12,500 (maximum $5,500 subsidized)

Notification of Federal Loan Offer
PBPH students with a valid FAFSA on file for the current academic year and who are eligible for federal aid will receive an email notification of their federal loan offer. Notifications are sent to both the email address provided on the admissions application and your ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ email account.

Processing Time
³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ typically downloads and processes financial aid offers twice a week. If you have a valid, complete FAFSA on file, you can generally expect to hear from us within 5–10 business days. If it’s been more than 10 business days and you haven’t received your aid offer, please contact our office so we can review your file.
Books and Supplies
Students may be offered federal loans to supplement educational costs associated with the purchase of required course books and materials. Supporting documentation, such as receipts, would be required to consider these expenses.
Disbursement of Aid
- Financial aid, including loans, is disbursed in accordance with the disbursement schedule.
- Accepted loans appear as anticipated credit on your bill to ensure balances are resolved by the due date.
- Remaining funds after your balance is paid will be refunded — sign up for direct deposit for faster processing.

Yes. The PBPH program is a non-degree certificate program offering undergraduate-level courses. Under limited circumstances, students may be eligible for federal financial aid for preparatory coursework required for admission into an eligible graduate or professional healthcare program.
You must meet all the following criteria:
- Not currently enrolled in any other degree or aid-eligible program at any school (including ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥).
- Not already admitted to your intended graduate or professional program.
- Enrolled in preparatory coursework required for admission to an eligible graduate/professional program in healthcare or medicine. Courses that are recommended but not required are not aid eligible.

Yes, in limited cases. You may receive aid may be offered for one repeat of a previously passed course (grade of D or higher for financial aid purposes).
Probably not. Students can only receive federal aid for preparatory coursework once in their lifetime and only for a single consecutive 12-month period, at any school. If you have used this before, even partially, you are not eligible again.
No. Federal aid for preparatory coursework is only available to students who are not currently enrolled in another eligible program, including ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ programs. If you are receiving federal aid for your current program, you cannot receive additional federal aid for preparatory courses at the same time.
Probably. All students receiving federal aid must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards based on prior academic history with federal aid. Students not meeting SAP may need to appeal before receiving aid.
Requesting Aid
Complete both of the following:
- The PBPH Financial Aid Request Form
- The FAFSA at studentaid.gov, including ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥â€™s school code: 002050.
Your request will be reviewed by the College of Professional Studies (CPS) and then by Student Financial Services (SFS) for final eligibility determination.
Upon submission of the form:
- CPS reviews your transcript(s) and works with you to confirm which courses are required for your intended program.
- Your request form and required coursework are forwarded to SFS for review.
- SFS determines your eligibility and notifies you of your loan offer.
Allow 1–2 weeks for processing and determination of your eligibility. Students are encouraged to submit their requests as far in advance as possible before their courses begin.
Aid Amounts and Loan Limits
Offered amounts will vary based on the student’s specific circumstances, including course enrollment and prior federal loan history. Federal loan limits for preparatory coursework:
- Dependent Students: Up to $5,500 total
- Independent students: Up to $12,500 (no more than $5,500 subsidized)
No. Students are only eligible for one 12-month period of aid for preparatory coursework*. However, if your 12-month window spans two academic years, you may receive two annual loan limits within that timeframe.
*Preparatory coursework is defined as any prerequisite that must be completed for a specific academic program before being admitted into that academic program at the postsecondary level.
Yes, for dependent students only. Graduate PLUS loans are not available since PBPH is a non-degree undergraduate-level program.
Because the PBPH program is a non-degree certificate program, students are only eligible for federal financial aid under limited circumstances for preparatory coursework. PBPH students eligible for federal financial aid may receive aid to cover direct costs (tuition, required fees) and books and supplies.
Aid Offer and Next Steps
You may complete a FAFSA before official acceptance to determine general federal aid eligibility, but specific PBPH eligibility requires both ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ admission and completing the PBPH Financial Aid Request Form.
Students accepted to the PBPH program will receive an email from SFS outlining the process to request consideration of financial aid.

Changes, Withdrawals, and Other Funding
Withdrawing may result in adjustments to your financial aid. ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ is required to perform a return of federal funds calculation (R2T4), which may create a balance on your account.
