Location
Emily Kelting, Ph.D. joined the 成人直播 in August 2024. She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Drexel University in Philadelphia and has applied her mathematical expertise to a wide range of fields, including fluid dynamics, microphysics, parasitology, ecology, combustion science, psychology, and statistics.
Dr. Kelting鈥檚 educational and research philosophy goes beyond teaching formulas and techniques; she is committed to fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Her goal is to empower students and ignite their passion for mathematics both in the classroom and through research. She aims to inspire a sense of wonder and curiosity, encouraging students to explore topics that interest them, helping them develop their own research questions, and aiding them in conducting meaningful investigations.

Current research
I currently apply mathematics to study physical oceanography, focusing on coastal dynamics and estuarine systems. By leveraging differential equations and numerical simulations, I am able to explore how waves and currents move sediment, reshape shorelines, and drive long-term coastal change. I also extend this modeling framework to investigate temperature and salinity dynamics in the Saco Estuary to better understand how coastal environments respond to natural variability and environmental stress.
I鈥檓 deeply committed to undergraduate researcher and believe the best way to learn math is by applying it to the real world. I frequently partner with faculty in the School of Marine and Environmental Programs (SMEP) to connect mathematical modeling with their fieldwork and environmental labs. I鈥檓 always looking for students and collaborators to join me in my research. If you鈥檙e curious about using mathematics to explore real-world systems, I鈥檇 love to connect.
