Brian Duff, Ph.D., associate professor of political science, was quoted in a March 14, 2011 story on Maine native and horror writer Stephen King's remarks at a Florida politcal rally where he compared Maine Gov. Paul LePage, Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, all Republicans, to “Larry, Curly and Moe,” the Three Stooges. 

Maine Republicans and at least one political analyst quoted in the story discounted the impact of the remarks, noting that King is well-known as a contributor to the Democratic Party and liberal causes.

Duff, however, noted that King started off talking about LePage as a “tea party” candidate who was elected in a three-way race by only a plurality. “He put his finger on something that I think is going to resonate with people in Maine. ... We’re going to hear a lot more about it.” Duff added: “We ended up with a governor that is much more conservative than the Maine population as a whole."
